Neighbors near the site of a tanker truck crash on Interstate 65 that claimed the life of truck driver Bobby Bobo last Friday are raising money to donate to his family.
Mandy Whitson said she was heartbroken by the news and talked to neighbors about ways they could help.
"We were out playing with our kids when I started thinking, what can I do for the family?" Whitson said.
Whitson put a box on her front porch and posted a note on the community Facebook page asking for donations.
"I posted it, I put it out there," she said. "In my mind, I thought if we could get $500, how great that would be for the family."
The response has been overwhelming. So far, Whitson said she has received nearly $900 for Bobo's family.
Most of the people behind the effort live in the Highlands at Ladd Park, just one mile from where the crash happened. Neighbors are also working to help firefighters and first responders.
Neighbors plan to deliver the money this weekend.
