SF Bay area earthquake reaction floods social media

Governor Jerry Brown has issued a state of emergency for the Napa Valley area after residents were awakened early Sunday morning when their houses started shaking.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake was responsible for the disruption as it shook the San Francisco Bay area. The USGS reports the quake is the largest in 25 years.

The Associated Press cited Napa Valley firefighters in reporting three serious injuries as a result of the quake along with multiple minor injuries. No deaths have been reported.

AP also reports 120 patients have been treated at a Bay Area hospital.

After the quake struck, photos of damaged roads, buildings, grocery store aisles and even wine shelves began flooding social media.

Thousands gather in St. Louis to say goodbye to Michael Brown

Michael Brown, the 18-year-old whose death sparked a national conversation about the police's use of deadly force, will be laid to rest on Monday.

The funeral will be held at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church and is open to the public, according to KMOV. Civil rights activist Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy, and representatives from the White House were going to be in attendance.

At a rally on Sunday, Michael Brown Sr. requested that Monday be a day of peace, CNN reported.

"Tomorrow, all I want is peace while my son is being laid to rest," he said. "Can you please take a day of silence so we can lay our son to rest?"

Brown, an unarmed black man, was shot and killed more than two weeks ago by a white Ferguson police officer, triggering at times violent protests.

MTV Video Music Awards: #BeyMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards were also subject of conversation Monday morning.

Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Eminem all took home trophies, and Beyonce closed the show with a nearly 20-minute performance.

But the biggest moment was arguably at the end when Jay Z presented his wife with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award while daughter Blue Ivy cheered her on.

Sharing a kiss and calling his wife "the greatest living entertainer," the couple managed to silence divorce rumors that have been escalating online for months.

You know what they say: Actions speak louder than tabloids.
