UPDATE: Toddler dies, mom wounded in shooting in west Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 2-year-old child was killed and the toddler's 21-year-old mother also was shot on the front porch of a home in west Louisville late Wednesday afternoon, WAVE 3 News. 

A grandmother of the victims said a man walked up to the porch just before 6 p.m. and shot both the mother and child before fleeing on foot. Police are searching for the gunman. 

Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell confirmed at about 7:15 p.m. that the child died.

The mother's condition was not immediately available, nor were the victims' identities known.

It's not clear what prompted the shooting.
