LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Thousands of cyclists, walkers, canoeists and kayakers kicked off Labor Day by filling both the streets of downtown Louisville and the Ohio River.

Mayor Greg Fischer's 20th annual Hike, Bike and Paddle began at 8 a.m. Monday at Waterfront Park.

Jake Davis said he came to the event to support his dad who was participating in the 5K and check out the other activities going on.

“While he's running I came out here to watch people play paddleball and stuff, I thought it would be really cool because I love to bike, so paddle, bike and hike was a pretty cool thing,” he said.

The event is part of the Mayor's health initiative to get Louisville residents active and fit.
