KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) - The mayor of Kokomo says the city will see a big boost from an amateur baseball team that will start playing in its new downtown stadium next year.
The Kokomo team will be part of the Prospect League that features collegiate players during the summer months and includes teams in the Indiana cities of Terre Haute and Richmond.
The Kokomo Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1oADuGV ) team owner Mike Zimmerman of Milwaukee-based MKE Sports & Entertainment said Tuesday he believed the team will be successful because of Kokomo's love for sports and its downtown revitalization.
Construction began in recent weeks on the $9 million stadium project. It will have about 2,300 seats and 1,500 spots for lawn seating.
Mayor Greg Goodnight says the baseball team will bring family entertainment to the city's downtown.
