Driver accused of hitting trooper facing drug charges

BULLITT COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – The driver accused of hitting a Kentucky State Police Trooper who was conducting a traffic stop in Bullitt County is now facing drug related charges.

Charges of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, for methamphetamine, were filed against Louis Dunn, 43, of Booneville, Kentucky on Wednesday, Sept. 3, according to Bullitt County District Court records.

Kentucky State Police said on Aug. 30 Trooper Sam Shacklette had pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 65 for speeding, when a Ford SUV driven by Dunn hit both Shacklette and the car he had stopped. Shacklette was thrown approximately 50 feet and landed in the shoulder.

He was rushed to University of Louisville Hospital with a back fracture and internal bleeding.

Shacklette was working his last shift on the road before retirement at the time of the accident.

Immediately following the crash Dunn was cited for no insurance, having an expired license and failing to yield for a stopped emergency vehicle.

A pretrial conference for Dunn is scheduled for Sept. 9.
