Woman steals father's gun, turns it on him during robbery, police say

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police say a woman shot her father during a robbery with a gun she stole from his bedroom.

According to arrest reports, Tonya Adams - also known as Tonya Hanlon - and William Hanlon went to the home of Adams' father to retrieve some of Adams' belongings. Police say while there Adams took her father's .357 Magnum handgun from under his pillow, came into the living room and pointed it at him, asking him, "Do you want to die here or in the penitentiary?"

After wresting with Adams, the victim went to his bedroom, intending to retrieve his gun, only to find it was gone, police say.

Adams and the victim started wrestling again, and Adams shot the victim in the upper right shoulder, according to Adams' arrest report.

The report says Adams then handed the gun to Hanlon, who pointed it at the victim, who was lying on the ground, while Adams stole $3,650 and six handguns. Police say Adams and Hanlon the fled through the front door.

Adams, 46, and Hanlon, 56, are both charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence.
