LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Billy Goat Strut Revue is ready to make the crowd at the Louisville Music Awards move and groove.
The group, who plays what they like to call "bourbon jazz," got together in 2011. Adding a trombone and saxophone to the usual band line-up, they pay tribute to the jazz genre while mixing in some distinct Kentucky flavor. There may even be a little accordion playing in there to mix things up.
As their name suggests, they are a cover band, though lead vocalist Laura Ellis doesn't like the connotation that may be bring. "It's not just background music at a bar," she said. And if you listen to them, you'll agree their music is more than that.
You can catch them live at the Louisville Music Awards on September 28 at 7 p.m. at Headliners Music Hall. They will also be playing the NULU Festival September 27 at 5 p.m.
The Setlist is a collaboration between WFPK Music Director Kyle Meredith and WAVE 3 News Producer Laurel Mallory with editing by Zach Vickers. It airs every Sunday morning on WAVE 3 News Weekend Sunrise, which is produced by Ali Hammond.
