Nelson County's very own Kevin Harned is a graduate of Purdue University who began his career at WAVE 3 in June of 1998. Over the years he has worked with the area's best meteorologists: Tom Wills & John Belski, his mentor.
Upon the announcement of Belski's retirement in September of 2010 Harned was appointed chief meteorologist. He first met Belski in the 7th grade and managed to keep in touch with him for years before working under his direction.
"After all these years at WAVE 3 it's time for Kevin Harned to take the reins and lead the weather team," Belski said.
Harned says he looks forward to carrying on the tradition of Louisville's best weather team… with accurate, dependable forecasts delivered in a personable, yet professional manner. He was named 'Best of Louisville' by the readers of Louisville Magazine in 2011.
Kevin was one of the youngest members of the American Meteorological Society to receive the AMS Television Broadcast Seal of Approval. He enjoys forecasting, but says there is nothing like witnessing the power of nature.
Taking a hands-on approach, you'll see him chasing tornadoes and hurricanes, standing in floods and the worst winter storms ... working for you, keeping you and your family safe.
Kevin's favorite weather is 70 degrees and sunny, but he also enjoys a good thunderstorm. In his spare time, he likes to water ski and enjoys spending time with friends & family.
In his years at WAVE, Kevin has hosted WAVE 3 Listens, filled in on the anchor desk and even delivered breaking news a time or two. He is currently the host of Secrets of Louisville Chefs & Secrets of Louisville Chefs LIVE on the Ion Network. He makes numerous community appearances and uses his "weird" hobby of auctioneering to benefit many local charities.
Kevin says that, weather is his hobby and people are his passion!
His forecasts can be seen weeknights on WAVE 3 News, on his blog, The WAVE 3 Weather Blog at WAVE 3.com, facebook & twitter and heard each afternoon/evening on Clear Channel's News Radio 84 WHAS with Terry Meiners.
