LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A dog with gunshot wounds to the head and neck whose tail had been cut off, exposing the bone, is recovering after she was flown to Louisville for emergency treatment, according to The Arrow Fund.

The German Shepherd, named Cello, was found wounded and emaciated in Paintsville, Kentucky Tuesday. After hearing about Cello, volunteer pilot Valerie Allen flew her into Bowman Field so she could be transported to the Blue Pearl Animal Hospital for treatment.

Cello survived the surgery, but The Arrow Fund officials said it appeared she was shot at close range and one of her eyes will need to be removed.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Cello's case.

The Prestonsburg Police Department is also investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call (606) 886-1010.
