NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - A New Albany jewelry store is closing its doors after 134 years.
Endris Jewelers is located in the heart of New Albany. The owner, Bob Caesar, recently announced he will be closing up shop.
Caesar said he made the decision because he wants to spend more time with his family and travel. Caesar, who is also a New Albany City Councilman, says keeping up with the big chain stores has been also been challenging.
"There just isn't a jewelry store like this jewelry store," said Caesar. "Very few in area let alone in America."
The store was packed on Wednesday when people heard about the going out of business sale with jewelry items marked down 30 to 70 percent.
"Just sad they are closing," said longtime customer Beverly Karaffa. "They are like friends, you come in and you trust them, and are great to work with."
Caesar said it has been a honor to be a part of something special, that has meant so much to New Albany, and beyond.
"A genuine pleasure to serve the people of Kentuckiana for all these years, a genuine pleasure," said Caesar.
An exact closing date hasn't been set, but Endris plans to be in business through Dec. 31.
