SWAT standoff ends with arrest of 'Redbeard' serial robbery suspect

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man was arrested after a nearly four-hour standoff with a SWAT team, and investigators now say the man is wanted in connection with robberies at at least 11 local businesses.

Kenneth Michael Lee, 31, kept officers at bay until about 1 a.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of Main Street. Metro police had gotten a tip that he was in an apartment in that area, and when officers went to serve a warrant related to new robbery charges, as well as an outstanding warrant, he told them he was armed and barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Lee, also known as "Redbeard," eventually surrendered peacefully, according to a release issued by Metro police.

He's accused of robbing 11 restaurants, retail businesses and cash-advance stores -- 11 of them in all -- since Aug. 3.

The LMPD release also indicated that police in Shively are expected to charge Lee with at least two more crimes.
