MEADE COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – A Catholic priest removed from the ministry and indicted on sex abuse charges from the 1970s appeared in court Thursday morning.
Fr. Raymond Joseph Hemmerle was indicted by a Meade County grand jury on Sept. 8 on three counts of sexual abuse and six counts of sodomy. Hemmerle was arraigned later that day and pleaded not guilty.
The indictment says the victim was younger than 12 years old at the time of the allegations.
Hemmerle was placed on administrative leave in May 2014 after a man said he had been sexually abused in the 1970s. At the time he was placed on leave, Hemmerle was serving as pastor of parishes in Holy Cross, KY and St. Francis, KY.
The Commonwealth has offered no plea deal in the case. Hemmerle's trail is scheduled to take place over three days - Sept. 23, 2015 to Sept. 25, 2015 - in Meade County.
