Fort Knox welcomes back 65 soldiers following 9 months in Afghanistan

FORT KNOX, KY (WAVE) - What were you doing at 4:30 a.m. Saturday?

Many were probably resting comfortably in a warm bed, but at Fort Knox, several dozen soldiers were being welcomed back to after a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan.

Sixty five members of the 3rd Sustainment Command hugged and kissed loved ones in the early hours at the Natcher Fitness Center on Saturday.

According to a release sent by the Army's Public Affairs office at Fort Knox, the group provided the following aid during their mission:

+ More than 125 million gallons of fuel
+ More than 5 million cases of bottled water
+ More than 61 million meals

The unit also:
+ Sorted more than 340 million pounds of mail
+ Retrograded more than 4,000 military vehicles
+ Transferred approximately 11 million pounds of cargo
