LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Louisville's jobless rate in October was 5.2 percent, Mayor Greg Fischer's office announced Wednesday.

It's the lowest monthly unemployment rate since November 2007, furthering the argument about an improving local economy.

"The falling unemployment rate is a great indication that business has confidence in our economic development strategies," Fischer said in a statement. "We will continue to focus on getting more of our citizens back to work and on increasing wages, which is one of our top goals."

October's jobless rate is down 2.5 percent from October of last year.

Even better, the Louisville Metropolitan Statistical Area that includes eight area Kentucky counties and four in southern Indiana is at 5.1 percent.

The overall statewide rate was 5.3 percent in October.
