Documents raise more questions than answers about internal strife at JCPS

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Jefferson County Public Schools released documents Friday afternoon about its investigation into a complaint against communications director Helene Kramer.

Most of the content in the 26 pages of documents obtained by WAVE 3 News through an open-records request was redacted to the point that it's difficult to determine who's involved and what the original complaint is about.

From one document, it is possible to determine that one complaint against Kramer was substantiated.

However, in a letter to the complainant, Superintendent Donna Hargens indicated that both Kramer and the complainant will remain employed. She also offered to provide independent mediation to the two parties.

Kramer was hired on Aug. 1 and is one of six members of Hargens' executive cabinet. She's worked in Louisville for more than 20 years as a television reporter, a spokeswoman for the Louisville Metro Police Department and a PR director for a local ad agency.

She's the third person to lead the JCPS communications office since 2012.
