INDIANAPOLIS (WAVE) - Watch out for new snow plows in Indiana this winter.

The Indiana Department of Transportation unveiled six new tow plows Tuesday.

The tow plows are a second plow and spreader that are pulled behind and to the side the normal yellow plow trucks. That allows two lanes to be cleared at once which cuts down use of fuel, materials and labor.

INDOT said drivers who see the tow plows out on the roadways should not attempt to pass them if all lanes are blocked. Officials also recommend drivers stay a safe distance behind the tow plows.

Areas slated for their use include Interstate 74 between Indianapolis and Greensburg, Interstate 469 abd U.S. 24 northeast of Fort Wayne, U.S. 31 freeway near Kokomo, State Road 67 Muncie Bypass and U.S. 24 and State Road 25 Hoosier Heartland near Logansport.
