LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - University of Louisville sophomore forward Akoy Agau will transfer to another institution, departing from the Cardinals' basketball team at the completion of the fall semester.
"This has been a great opportunity for me," said Agau. "I want to thank Coach Pitino and the entire staff. I learned a lot in the two years I have been here and built a great connection with everyone. Everyone in this program is part of my family and it is sad to leave, but this is the best decision for me. I'm always going to be a part of the Louisville family."
"I sat down with Akoy and we agreed that it is in the best interest for his future to transfer to another university where playing time will be more readily available," said UofL Coach Rick Pitino. "I'm very fond of Akoy as a person. He exemplifies all that we want in a Louisville man. We wish him nothing but good fortune going forward and will always consider him a part of this program."
Agau has not made his choice of schools yet, but he will be given his full release from UofL. The 6-8 forward has seen limited action in three games this season after recovering from sports hernia surgery on July 29. He played in 19 games in a reserve role as a freshman last season.
A three-time all-state selection, he averaged 12.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and blocked 81 shots as a senior in 2012-13 in leading Omaha Central to a 26-4 record and the fourth straight Nebraska Class A state championship.
