LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The NFL is still a few weeks away from crowning a champion, but that doesn't mean we don't already have a leader in the race for Super Bowl ad supremacy.
Feb. 1 is the biggest day in pro football this year, but it's also the biggest day in branding. You could call it the Super Bowl for advertisers. In fact, do call it the Super Bowl for advertisers.
And it's not all that surprising that a beer maker shall lead them. What is somewhat of a curveball, however, is that the ad doesn't feature models in bikinis, dopey frat boys or the hot pop icon of the moment. It's not only a beer commercial; it's also a jab at the glossy big-budget spots a certain snack chip maker has made synonymous with Super Sunday.
It begins with an average-joe type looking around for a bag of chips, with his horizontal better half directing him throughout the house to do a few chores while searching.
The girlfriend wins -- don't they always in commercials? -- by tricking our bearded snack-seeker into cleaning the entire house before finally finding his prize in a slightly unlikely place.
