LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Jury selection began Monday for the trial of a former Louisville Metro Police Department narcotics detective accused of a shooting a man during a traffic stop.
Chauncey Carthan is charged with wanton endangerment, DUI and official misconduct from the Sept. 4, 2012 shooting.
According to police, Carthan was in his police cruiser when he was involved in a confrontation with Ishmael Gough in another car near 24th and Chestnut Streets. Both men got out of their vehicles and Carthan fired one shot, police said. Gough, who was shot in the leg, was not armed, according to police. He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for his injury and released.
Carthan's trial is tentatively scheduled to take place on Jan. 12 at 1p.m.
