Already in jail, drug suspect charged with murder

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man arrested and jailed on drug charges Thursday ended up facing a murder charge while in custody just a few hours later.

Devon Lightfoot, 36, was arrested at a home in the 1600 block of Huntoon Avenue on Thursday afternoon, accused of trafficking heroin, among other charges.

A convicted felon, Lightfoot was then arrested on a murder charge Thursday night while in jail in downtown Louisville.

Investigators said he was involved in a deadly burglary last month. Lightfoot "was identified as one of the multiple subjects" involved in the burglary at 3112 Dumesnil Street, where one of the alleged perpetrators -- Shawn Stoudemire -- was shot dead.

A man named Jeffrey Bradley was arrested last week in connection with the crime. Investigators said at one point they followed Bradley to a grocery store and upon identifying themselves as police, Bradley threw a bag of what was believed to be pre-packaged cocaine over the counter of the store.

Lightfoot's arrest report doesn't specify what his involvement in the crime was, nor is it known who fired the shot that killed Stoudemire.
