Big Four Railroad Bridge Plans Move Forward

(Louisville, Ky., January 13, 2005) -- Today the Kentucky Supreme Court refused to hear arguments concerning the Big Four Railroad Bridge.  This allows Metro Louisville to move ahead with plans for a pedestrian bridge across the Ohio as part of the Waterfront Park Phase III expansion.

The bridge ownership has been in dispute with the city over the price of the structure and the city’s plan to incorporate it into an expanding Waterfront Park.

Cyclist and pedestrians have been looking forward to the bridge as a safe way into Southern Indiana without having cross the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge or driving.  The George Rogers Clark Bridge has gaps and grates that make cycling or rollerblading across the structure somewhat unsafe.

The Waterfront Development Corporation which takes care of the park expects it to take several years before the bridge is open to the public.
