HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Itsaknockout won the $400,000 Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park on Saturday after first-place finisher Upstart was disqualified to second following a steward's inquiry and jockey objection.
Itsaknockout earned 50 points toward becoming eligible for the Kentucky Derby. The top 20 points earners in designated races will be eligible for the May 2 race at Churchill Downs.
Heavily favored Upstart, ridden by Jose Ortiz, ran 1 1/16 miles on the fast track in 1:46.28, beating Itsaknockout by 2 3-4 lengths. Jockey Luis Saez lodged an objection against Upstart, whom the stewards concluded had drifted out and obstructed Itsaknockout.
Itsaknockout, trained by Todd Pletcher and owned by Starlight Racing, paid $12.80, $5 and $4.00 in the Grade 2 race.
Upstart, who earned 10 Kentucky Derby points by winning the Holy Bull at Gulfstream on Jan. 24, added 20 points in the Fountain of Youth.
