Pass the Cash - March 11, 2015: Melissa

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Hard work does not always equate to easy times when it comes to paying the bills. We hit the street before Wednesday's winter storm hoping to help ease the grey skies for someone facing financially turbulent times by passing the cash.

The sun was shining bright in Buechel and the traffic was busy. So were we as we stood on Hikes Lane with our Pass the Cash sign looking for help so we could be of help to someone facing tight financial times.

Vicki knew just where our dollars would make a difference. She told us about her new friend and co-worker Melissa.

“She's been working where I work for about five months now. She's a doll. She is married with two girls and a young boy. Her and her husband are dear people,” she said.

Folks who work hard to make ends meet but finding right now they are not even close.

“It hurts me when I see her hurting and anything I could do to help her would be great,” Vicki said. “I have helped her a little bit, giving her a Christmas tree and an old TV I had when there's went out.”

In addition to our usually amount of $300, an anonymous donor pitched in $66 more.

With the cash in hand we went to find Melissa, who was with her new work family.

“You have been a blessing to our office,” said Vicki, “and I have something I'd like to give to you to help you out.”

The tears began as Vicki started passing the cash to Melissa. For every dollar a tear.

Melissa didn't move much. She and hardly spoke at all, but her emotion showed her gratitude.

“Thank you, I don't know what to say,” she said.

Sometimes actions speak louder than words.
