Covington Holy Cross beats Male in Girls Sweet 16

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Deja Turner had 20 points to lead No. 5 Covington Holy Cross past Male 47-37 in the semifinals of the KHSAA Girls' Sweet 16 tournament on Saturday.

Covington Holy Cross (32-3), which won the All 'A' state tournament earlier this season, advances to the first Sweet 16 title game in school history.

Holy Cross used a 10-0 run in the third quarter to build a 31-20 advantage.

Male (26-5) scored five straight to cut the deficit to six, but was unable to get any closer.

Ally Mayhaus added 12 points and 13 rebounds for Holy Cross, which shot 36.6 percent but outrebounded Male 37-28.

Emilia Sexton led Male with 12 points, while Iliyah Green scored nine. Male shot 29.5 percent from the field, including 2 for 12 from the 3-point range.
