LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Bellarmine University is back in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
The top-seeded Knights advanced with an 81-72 over third seeded Indianapolis on Tuesday night in Knights Hall.
Bellarmine senior Jake Thelen led the way with 24 points and 15 rebounds and was named Most Valuable Player of the Midwest Region. Teammates Chris Whitehead and Corbin Maynard joined Thelen on the All-Tournament team.
"It's such a great university, and it's such a phenomenal group of young men," Knights head coach Scotty Davenport said. "It's in the city, the greatest city of all of college basketball at any level."
Thelen added, "We were fortunate enough to be able to host the Region, and take care of business all throughout the year. We're just blessed to be in this situation, you know, we're ready for Evansville."
Honorary team member Patrick McSweeney, who suited up for the Knights in an exhibition game against Louisville, helped cut down the nets.
Bellarmine will face Minnesota State Moorhead on March 25 at Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. It is the Knights third trip to the Elite Eight. They won the National Championship in 2011.
