Driver charged with murder, DUI in fatal crash with motorcyclist

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police in Shively have arrested a man on numerous charges - including murder and DUI - in connection to a crash that killed a motorcyclist in March.

Police say Jurmaine L. Henderson, 35, hit and killed James Walker, 51, on March 21 in the 3900 block of 7th Street Road, where it meets Dixie Highway.

Officers found Henderson, who sometimes uses the name Jackson, in front of an auto parts store on Dixie Highway. He allegedly told police he ran from the scene because he had warrants out for his arrest.

Henderson and a woman originally told police that the woman had been driving at the time of the crash. Witnesses told police, however, that they had seen Henderson climbing out through the driver's side window.

Henderson was taken to University of Louisville for blood tests. An arrest report shows his blood alcohol level was measured to be .114.

Two young children who were riding in the back of Henderson's SUV were not in proper child restraints, police said. Paramedics checked the children, who did not appear to have any major injuries, but they were taken to Kosair for a more complete examination.

Henderson is charged with murder, DUI, three counts of wanton endangerment, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, improper turning, driving without a license, failure to use child restraints and driving without insurance.
