Federal help available for those cleaning up after April flooding

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Last month's flooding left quite a mess around WAVE Country, but government representatives were in town Friday to help residents seeking federal aid to clean things up.

Homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered damage met with agents as well as reps from the Small Business Administration, offering low-interest loans.

Anyone near Okolona Fire Station No. 1 can go there to talk to someone about getting monetary relief. That's on Preston Highway near Southern High School.

"An applicant is not required to come here," FEMA Media Relations spokesman Jim Homstad said. "But it's here if you need us, for face-to-face dialogue and to get updates on your application or your assistance or your eligibility."

Added SBA Public Affairs spokeswoman Yvette Jeffrey: "Don't exclude yourself because you may not have many damages or you have insurance. Go through the entire process. Don't leave anything on the table. You may not need it; you may not need it today, but you might need it in the future."
