LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man wanted for an armed robbery led officers on a pursuit in a stolen undercover police van across state lines before coming to an end in downtown Louisville.

Jeffersonville Police Department Det. Lt. Todd Hollis said a warrant was issued for Cameron Allen Smith in connection to a robbery of a Jeffersonville business on April 18.

On Wednesday Jeffersonville officers set up surveillance on 10th Street after they received a tip Smith was in the area. Police spotted Smith around 7 p.m. and called in additional officers to arrest him. During that time Hollis said Smith somehow got in the driver's seat of an unmarked JPD van and fled.

Hollis said Smith was driving erratically and crashed into a car, gained control, then continued to drive across Interstate 65 into downtown Louisville.

Once he was in Louisville officers were able to stop him near Preston and Oak Streets. Smith was taken into custody without incident and taken back to Indiana.
