Louisville, KY (WAVE) Four years ago Jacob Fiorella took over a struggling Waggener baseball program, but now the Wildcats are turning things around, and are heading to the Regional Tournament for the first time in 16 years. "They usually bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and that's why they've experienced a lot of success with that," said Fiorella. "It's a big part of our program. Especially since it's been around since we've been, and we've all been working hard since our coach got here four years ago to get to this opportunity," said senior Derek Carr.
Waggener drew perennial seventh region power St.X in the opening round, and relish the underdog role. "Everybody that comes in as the underdog they're like, no we're not as good as we think we are. We know we're better than that, so we're going to prove everybody wrong," said sophomore Jacob Frankel. If they're able to pull off the upset, this team full of U of L baseball fans will have a chance to live out a dream....playing a game at Jim Patterson Stadium. 'We go out there and watch Louisville play all the time, so I think it will be a great experience to play at Jim Patterson," said Frankel.
