Capt. Salvador Melendez, with the Louisville Fire Department Metro Arson Bureau, said the Salter had a dispute with the tenant who lived in the home and she set the fire with the intention to kill the dog.

No other injuries were reported, but police said the home was heavily damaged by the fire. The flames also spread to a neighboring structure and damaged the exterior.

Salter is charged with second-degree and third-degree arson.
