2015 Kindergarten Countdown kicks off

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Parents who are preparing to send their kids to kindergarten can get free help to prepare.

Thursday, Jefferson County Public School along with Louisville Free Public Library, Metro United Way and Mayor Greg Fischer kicked off the 2015 Kindergarten Countdown.

Families can register at any Louisville Free Public Library Branch. After registering the child will receive a free book and a t-shirt that says “I'm Going to Kindergarten.”

Children who wear the shirt and are accompanied by an adult will get free admission to events at the following places:

  • Stage One Family Theatre and Louisville Free Public Library, Main Branch 
  • Frazier History Museum 
  • Northeast YMCA, Calypso Cove 
  • Muhammad Ali Center 
  • Walden Theatre 
  • Louisville Zoo 
  • Louisville Water Tower Park 
  • Kentucky Science Center 
  • Kentucky Shakespeare Festival 
  • Kentucky Derby Museum 
The big wrap-up is the Kindergarten Countdown Fair which will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 28 at Louisville Slugger Field.
