JCPS drivers compete during Bus Road-E-O

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A competitive event to honor school bus drivers who get nearly 100,000 students to and from school daily was held Monday morning.

Drivers gathered for the 34th annual Jefferson County Public School Bus Road-E-O at the Lees Lane Bus compound.

The event tests the skills of 26 of the best drivers who are put through driving, reversing, navigating and parking challenges.

Awards were given to the top drivers from the district's 13 compounds including an extra special award to JCPS driver Yvonne “Ms. Bunny” Wilson, who performed the Heimlich Maneuver on a kindergarten student who choked on a hard candy.

"When I did it, I didn't do it to receive anything, but I knew it was something I had to do for that little girl," she said.

Ms. Bunny was presented with the Golden Oar Award for her heroic actions.
