BULLITT COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – There are still a lot of questions as to what happened near a Bullitt County rest stop that resulted in a man being stabbed to death.

The body of Aaron Michael Jerrell, 44, of Tuscumbia, Alabama was discovered shortly before 2 p.m. June 20 outside his car near the rest area at the 113 mile marker on I-65 south. Jerrell died from a stab wound. Shepherdsville Police say they are still investigating the case.

Shepherdsville police say Jerrell's death may have been a case of self-defense and no charges have been filed at this time.

A woman passenger, who has not been identified, in Jerrell's vehicle was questioned by authorities and later released after consultation with the Bullitt County Commonwealth Attorney's Office. Police have not told WAVE 3 News what the relationship the woman and Jerrell had.

Information from Alabama says Jerrell was placed on the sex offender registry after a conviction for the rape of a 14 year old girl in 2000. The registry also says that Jerrell was a truck driver.
