Confederate Flag supporters hold Independence Day rally in Madisonville

MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

Since the church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, the Confederate Flag has been lowered all over the southern states, and retailers like Walmart and Amazon have stopped selling the flag.

But a local group of people met Saturday to fly the flag, saying they believe it has historical significance.

Rachel Back organized the rally in Western Kentucky. She says the group used their freedom on Independence Day to fly the Confederate flag.

She tells us their goal is to try to get people to realize its role in history and not associate it as a hate or racist symbol.

Back says she hopes to organize another rally in the future.
