LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's been an impressive inaugural season for the Louisville City Football Club – the newest soccer team in the United Soccer League.
With players from seven different countries and a strong owner and coach, the club is the talk of the league – second best in their 12–team division and fourth best overall in a 24 team league – and riding a five game win streak at the moment. The club certainly has the talent and focus to win the championship this year.
They are also among the league leaders in attendance – a tribute to this region of sports fans – and a nod to the growing popularity here for soccer.
Cheers as well to the Louisville Bats, who have shared Slugger field seamlessly with Louisville City FC.
Next month, for the first time ever, a Major League Soccer team will play in Louisville when the Orlando City Soccer Club take on Louisville FC at Slugger Field.
Louisville will likely advance to the MLS someday and it will be because this current team started off in such a professional way.
Hats off to all involved in this start up and for the area fans for their support.
