Consumer Reports rates hospital infection prevention

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A new study from Consumer Reports reveals how well hospitals prevent patients from developing infections.

More than 640,000 Americans each year develop such infections. More than 8 percent of those people die from them, including MRSA, C-difficile, urinary tract and blood infections.

Of the large hospitals in WAVE Country, Consumer Reports gave only Baptist East a higher rating for avoiding MRSA but the second-lowest rating for C-difficile. University Hospital received the lowest rating for avoiding MRSA and the second-lowest for C-difficile.

Floyd Memorial, Hardin Memorial, Jewish and Norton hospitals all received the second-lowest rating for MRSA and C-Difficile.
