LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - There are more many people working in WAVE Country than a year ago.
The jobless rate fell to 4.7 percent in June, compared to 6.1 percent in June of 2014. Those numbers are better than the nation overall. And, nearly 500 more homes were sold in the Louisville area in the first five months of the year compared to last year.
You would think that with those numbers, more people would be feeling better about the economy, but apparently the Great Recession that supposedly ended six years ago still lingers, as only a quarter of the folks in this region and the country overall feel better about it.
One big reason is median wages - here, and nationally.
Those wages have slightly declined compared to ten years ago. The biggest opportunity locally for high-wage jobs are in healthcare and information technology.
Only when real wages overall begin to rise significantly, will we likely see consumer confidence rise.
