Louisville, KY (WAVE) - The University of Louisville football team hit the practice field for the first time on Thursday morning. The newcomers went out first, followed by the returnees in the afternoon.
"I thought it was good work," UofL head coach Bobby Petrino said after the afternoon session. "I like the talent that we have, you know, we have some size on the defensive front."
The Cards veterans included Will Gardner and Corvin Lamb, both returning from knee injuries that sidelined them in 2014.
Preseason ACC first team selection James Burgess was also happy with day one. "We had a lot of guys flying around, a lot of guys buying into the coaching scheme early," the senior linebacker said. "We're still trying to put pieces to the puzzle, but we looked pretty good, pretty solid for the first day of practice."
Brandon Radcliff was the Cards leading rusher in 2014. He carried the ball 144 times for 737 yards and 14 touchdowns. "Day one was great, you know, happy to get back out there and touch the pigskin, run around and have some fun," Radcliff said after practice. "So it was great to get out there on the first day, football season has started"
The Cards media day is Saturday and they'll have open practices on Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and on Monday and Tuesday at 4:20 p.m. The season opener is September 5, in Atlanta, against #7 Auburn.
