LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The eight month 'deflategate' saga may mercifully end next week when a judge rules on whether quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots should be suspended for the first four games of this season.
The Patriots are the defending Super Bowl champs and the winningest team in the National Football League the past ten years.
The NFL did not correct erroneous information that was reported following the AFC championship playoff game with the Indianapolis Colts that all but one of the 12 Patriots footballs used in the first half of that game were deflated below the minimum standard.
The NFL certainly could have defused this entire deal by being more forthright from the beginning about what actually happened and saying from now on the league would be in charge of inflating the footballs, not the teams.
Tom Brady certainly could have defused this entire deal himself by being more responsive from the outset and throughout the investigation.
The Patriots have already been penalized with the loss of draft picks and a million dollar fine.
It seems that the scandal about under-blown footballs has become totally blown out of proportion.
