LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - He's a favorite son of the city even if he's not from Louisville.
Former UofL basketball star Russ Smith is in town, and ready to party with you.
On Saturday, Russ and Captain's Quarters restaurant are inviting the public for an all-day event which will include face painting for the kids from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., a yacht party for the adults from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and an after-party at Captain's Quarters with most of the proceeds going to different charities including the West End School and the Russ Smith Foundation.
Smith said he loves giving back because it brings him back to his childhood.
"I was one of those kids that grew up in a rough neighborhood," he told WAVE 3 News. "Even though I had both parents, I still had friends that was unfortunate, under privileged. So, when I give back to the West End School, that's all that's on my mind. When I go to Kosair's, that's what I'm thinking about."
