Glendale Volunteer Department Lt. Jonathan French was killed and his mother Lisa, also a firefighter, was injured in the early-morning hours of Aug. 6, 2014.
A tractor-trailer struck their fire truck while they were working an incident on Interstate 65 just south of Elizabethtown.
Jonathan French died at the scene. He was 25 years old.
Lisa French, now 44, was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries.
Weeks after the crash, Lisa French, who is also the sister of the Glendale Fire Department, recalled how helpful Supporting Heroes was to her family.
"They came to the hospital, they stayed with the family," French said. "They actually brought money to the hospital for them to have food and whatever."
The tragedy marked the first line-of-duty death in Hardin County since 1970, when an Elizabethtown firefighter was killed.
