Marion County Deputy Anthony Rakes was on his way home from work when he was killed.
In November 2012, Rakes was headed home after his shift ended at about 2 a.m. when he observed a man sitting in a stopped car on the roadway.
Rakes stopped to render aid to whom he assumed was a stranded motorist. As he approached the car, its occupant shot and killed him.
Dwayne Shipp, 49, was arrested in Campbellsville and later convicted of murder.
Rakes had served with the Marion County Sheriff's Office for six years and was an officer for the Lebanon Police Department for two years prior to that.
