LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - WAVE 3 News is proud to partner with Supporting Heroes once again this year in an effort to help raise money for the families of public safety personnel killed in the line of duty.
The Louisville-based group has helped families all over WAVE Country, and in order to keep Supporting Heroes in a position to continue those efforts, WAVE 3 News has announced a telethon for Friday, Sept. 9.
Supporting Heroes aims to provide at least $3,000 in emergency funds to cover a family's immediate financial needs in the wake of a line-of-duty death. After that, the organization gives each family enough money to pay their bills until state or federal benefits arrive.
In many cases, the donations amount to more than $50,000 per family over a year or two following a death, according to Eric Johnson, the director of Supporting Heroes.
From 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, call in at (502) 571-3333 to donate money to help them cover those costs.
During the telethon, families of fallen heroes will be in the WAVE 3 News studio to share their stories. Tune in to hear those and learn more about how Supporting Heroes helps them when they need it most.
