LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - As people plan to fly this holiday season, the TSA is reminding passengers to double-check their bags before they run them through the X-Ray machine.

While some items people are told to leave at home or to check are more obvious – such as tools, knives and guns - more common items that will be thrown away at the airport include lotions, hairspray, tanning oils and tooth paste.

TSA regulations state liquids taken on flights must be under 3.4 ounces. So officials say it pays to check bags first.

TSA Supervisor Charles Spiller said, “These are just things that sometimes people just forget that people have packed away in their luggage or buried away in their luggage somewhere, bags that they may not have used in a long time.”

The TSA has a 311 rule, 3 ounces per passenger, per 1-quart-size bag.
