New machine causes absentee ballot issue in Clark County

CLARK COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - A new ballot counting machine caused delays and disputes in Clark County Tuesday night.

For the first time, absentee and early ballots were counted at the courthouse instead of in each precinct.

Of the roughly 3,500 absentee ballots, about 1,000 could not be read by the new machine.

No election results were released while officials determined how to count those thousand.

The situation upset campaign representatives for incumbent Mayor Mike Moore who demanded results be released for the absentee ballots counted by the machine. After a heated debate, those results were released - giving Moore's campaign enough confidence to declare victory.

The final absentee ballots were still being counted Tuesday night.
