STARLIGHT, IN (WAVE) - A road that was first suggested in the 1960s is nearing completion.

Star Valley Way will run from Rake Road, near Starlight, to Highway 60, near Borden.

The $13.6 million project started in 2012 and was scheduled to open on Nov. 27, but was delayed to allow crews to finish work on guard rails.

The new road aims to provide a safer journey for visitors to Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards and will also bring neighboring small towns closer together.

Dana Huber, with Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards, said, “I'm very, very excited to see over the next 10 to 20 years what will happen in this community as we build our relationships outbound.”

The ceremony to open the road will take place on the Borden side at 3 p.m. on Dec. 11.
