Louisville City announces returnees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville City FC featured one of the USL’s most potent strike forces in its historic 2015 campaign -- advancing to the Eastern Conference finals in the Club’s inaugural season. The team has exercised options on three midfielders, returning a core unit of coach James O’Connor’s roster for the 2016 season.

Kadeem Dacres, Juan Guzman and Niall McCabe will return to Slugger Field after combining for 5,456 minutes of competition in 2015. Israeli midfielder Guy Abend will also return to Louisville City FC’s midfield after completing the first year of a two-year contract.

“We are delighted to have the core of our team returning,” O'Connor said. "They were all very consistent last season and we look forward to an even greater contribution next year."

O’Connor’s team finished 14-8-6 in USL play before falling in the Eastern Conference final, ranking as one of the league’s top-3 teams in shots per game, points per game, goals per game and assists per game.

Kadeem Dacres, MF

Dacres, a 23-year-old New York native, finished with six goals -- behind only Golden Boot winner and USL Most Valuable Player Matt Fondy and Magnus Rasmussen. Dacres' goal in the 93rd minute versus the Pittsburgh Riverhounds back on April 19 allowed Louisville to escape with a point, and it is still the latest regular season goal in Louisville's short history. The pacey winger contributed two assists in his 22 starts.

Juan Guzman, MF

The 26-year-old holding midfielder featured in more than 2,000 minutes, including 25 starts, in 2015. He scored a goal and added an assist from a natural deep-lying position. Guzman also scored in Louisville's 3-1 win over Orlando City SC on August 25. The Charlotte, North Carolina native was a leader in the midfield, with many of his plays on the ball leading to goal-scoring sequences.

Niall McCabe, MF

McCabe, a 24-year-old Irish attacking midfielder, fired the team’s third highest total of shots on goal (16) -- behind only Fondy and Dacres. He hit the target four times while assisting on a goal in his 27 appearances. McCabe scored all of his goals on the road. His screamer in the last match of the 2015 season clinched the Kings Cup Trophy.

Guy Abend, MF

The 6-foot-1 defensive midfielder navigated in front of Louisville City’s stout backline with nine appearances in 2015. He’s one of 15 Louisville City players to record either a goal or assist in the team’s first year. Abend's cheeky back-heel to Charlie Adams secured an opening day victory for Lou City.

A fan favorite, the 24-year-old Israeli is one of the coaches of Louisville City FC’s Winter Skills Camp.

Louisville City FC will continue announcing its roster additions leading up to the 2016 season.
