LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Mr. Peabody will ride almost anything. He loves to ride a bike. And on Thursday, he rode a sled in Louisville's Seneca Park.

By the way, Mr. Peabody is a dog - possibly a long-haired Jack Russell terrier/American Eskimo mix, his owner Jim Solley said.

"He has always displayed great balance," Solley said. "and now, at the advanced age of 15, decided to try his luck on the slopes, and again displayed amazing balance [and] agility."

For the last 12 years, Mr. Peabody has ridden a bike in the annual Mayor’s Hike, Bike & Paddle event.

"He rides standing up for 20 miles, and he's done this since he was three," Solley said.

That's the same year Solley took Mr. Peabody in. Solley said he started walking his neighbor's dog while recovering from open heart surgery in 2003. One day, "this little thing came across, and I couldn't shoo him away," Solley said of Mr. Peabody. Solley said he located the dog's owner, but she didn't want him back, so Solley kept him. The two have been inseparable ever since.

Solley said Mr. Peabody is also known as "Santa Dog."

"Every year for the past 10 years at Christmastime, [Mr. Peabody] has visited patients at Masonic Home," a nursing home in Louisville, Solley said. "He goes as Santa's sidekick, and, as I'm sure you can imagine, steals the shot from the 'jolly old elf,'" who is played by Solley.

Mr. Peabody is also an avid fisherman. "Every time the pole bends, he's on it," Solley said.

He still thinks he's a puppy, Solley said, but at 15, Mr. Peabody is over 100 years old in "people years."
