Lexington mayor files for U.S. Senate run against Rand Paul

LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) - Lexington Mayor Jim Gray has filed to run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Rand Paul.

Gray filed his papers to run as a Democrat this morning.

After serving as vice mayor since 2007, Gray was elected mayor in 2010, making him the first openly gay mayor in Kentucky.

Gray, who is in his second term, is the former CEO of Gray Construction, a company headquartered in Lexington.

Paul is in the final year of his first term. In addition to running for re-election to the Senate, Paul is also seeking the Republican nomination for president.
